In recognition of the many contributions of volunteers, we are celebrating with a spotlight of HOME WORKS! Volunteer, Lisa Clemons. What motivates you to volunteer?
Giving back to the community motivates me to volunteer in ways where I can be part of making a difference to others. Working to improve the lives of children and families through education is something I’m very passionate about. In addition, I have the time and energy to volunteer and HOME WORKS! is a great program to be involved with.
What drew you to the HOME WORKS mission?
Being a parent and having a son inspired me to volunteer with HOME WORKS!. I want all children to have the resources they need to succeed in life. My son went to school at one of the HOME WORKS! schools and I appreciate all the good work they are doing in education and Family Engagement.
What have you enjoyed the most about volunteering at HOME WORKS!?
What I’ve enjoyed most is being involved with their wonderful program which provides assistance to schools to bridge the gap between teachers, parents and students. This year I volunteered at Nance Elementary and Fairview Elementary for a Parent Teacher Workshop. It was great to experience how involved families can be in their child’s education especially with the guidance of the HOME WORKS! program. I enjoy volunteering my time whenever I can by assisting those in need.
What would you say to someone thinking of becoming a HOME WORKS! Volunteer?
If anyone is thinking of becoming a HOME WORKS! Volunteer, you will enjoy the warm welcoming staff. The program is dedicated to the mission they set forth and they are providing expertise in schools across the St. Louis region. It’s gratifying to be part of such an important mission. I love volunteering with HOME WORKS! I look forward to continuing my involvement and interaction with HOME WORKS!
