Here at HOME WORKS!, volunteers are vital to helping our school-based family events run smoothly so teachers can focus on building trusting relationships with students’ families. In recognition of the many contributions of volunteers, we are celebrating with a spotlight of HOME WORKS! Volunteer, Bev Eichelberger. Read on to learn about how Bev has been inspired to join the Family Engagement movement!
What motivates you to volunteer?
One of the major reasons I volunteer is because I just love helping kids especially in a school setting knowing how important education is to their future. Each time you volunteer with HOME WORKS! you spend several hours at the school assisting families and teachers, however, the impact it has on the student lasts a lifetime.
What specifically motivates you to volunteer with HOME WORKS!?
HOME WORKS! is a great organization. They have been in Boonville schools helping our community for years; they provide support and resources to schools to improve student success. In addition, my friends also volunteer with HOME WORKS! making the event socially rewarding as well as giving back to the community. It’s a win-win.
What have you enjoyed the most about volunteering at HOME WORKS!?
I love to see the excitement on the kids’ faces when they come to the HOME WORKS! events! It’s truly wonderful to experience the joy and connection between families and educators at the Family Dinners and Parent Teacher Workshops. You can really see the gratitude and appreciation from the families, students, teachers, and staff and this strong connection is what keeps me motivated to give back to my community by volunteering with HOME WORKS!.
What would you say to someone thinking of becoming a HOME WORKS! volunteer?
I would highly recommend it. Every HOME WORKS! event is helping to build strong relationships between home and school…families and educators. It’s fulfilling on a personal level and contributes to the wellbeing of our community. It’s a fabulous program.
